What Are Access Floors?
Essentially, an access floor is a series of flooring panels which are suspended above a solid substrate. This creates a void referred to as the plenum. In this accessible space, the distribution of building services such as cabling, power, pipes and air conditioner systems can be installed. The height of the plenum can be as little as 60mm or as tall as 1.6m – it all depends on what is most suitable for the project.
Data centres, office buildings, banks, libraries, schools and universities are just some of the environments where access floors are most commonly installed.
